How to make a seamless pattern (the short version)

  1. Pick a brush and just draw. Strokes that cross a tile edge continue on the opposite side automatically — that's what makes the repeat seamless.
  2. Choose your repeat layout. Grid is the classic block repeat; half-drop shifts each column down by half a tile for a more organic flow; brick shifts rows sideways.
  3. Export. Grab the single repeat tile for wallpaper, fabric or web use, or a full pattern sheet to preview at scale.

What is a half-drop repeat?

A half-drop repeat is the most common layout in professional surface design: each vertical column of the pattern is shifted down by half the tile height. It breaks up the grid-like rhythm of a straight repeat, which is why florals, textiles and wallpaper lean on it so heavily. In Tilebrush you don't have to construct it manually — switch the repeat mode to Half-Drop and the live preview and exports handle the math.

FAQ

Is Tilebrush really free?

Yes. It runs entirely in your browser, there's no account and exports carry no watermark. It's built by a small indie studio — if you enjoy it, sharing a pattern you made is the best thank-you.

Does it work on iPad with Apple Pencil?

Yes — Tilebrush reads Apple Pencil pressure through the browser, and palm touches are ignored while you draw with the Pencil. It also works with Wacom and other pressure tablets on desktop, or a plain mouse.

Can I use my patterns commercially?

Everything you draw is yours. Use your exported tiles for fabric, wallpaper, digital products, print-on-demand — anything.

How is this different from AI pattern generators?

Tilebrush doesn't generate anything for you — it's a drawing tool. You draw every stroke; Tilebrush just makes the repeat math invisible. If you want your patterns to look like your work, that's the point.

Do my drawings get uploaded anywhere?

No. Drawing, tiling and PNG export all happen locally in your browser. Your artwork never leaves your device.
